THE TEAM
By James R. McGlinn
I, James R. McGlinn, am the General Manager of ARRRRR STABLES. In 1966, as a junior in high school, I made my initial trip to a racetrack, Monmouth Park, in NJ. I followed that with frequent trips to Garden State, Liberty Bell and Atlantic City Racetracks. From the very first horserace that I saw, thoroughbred horseracing has been in my blood and has been my favorite sport. The speed, the beauty, the pageantry and pushing $2 through the teller’s windows all made thoroughbred horse racing the greatest sport in the world to me. Now, 40 years later, I feel the same way I did then.
During the 1980s, I began attending thoroughbred auctions in New York and Kentucky, not as a buyer or seller, but as an observer and student. I met and questioned some of the best minds in the industry during those years, benefiting from their lifetimes of experience of being around horses. In 1991, I took the plunge and bought a 10% ownership in the racehorse, Fight For Peace, for $5,000. Fight For Peace raced only a few months for the partnership, won one race, and was sold for $40,000, almost fully returning the initial investment. It was a fun and exciting experience. There is nothing quite like it.
BREEDING
Also beginning in 1991, I bought my first mare. In a few years I was breeding 1-3 mares per year. Of these offspring, I kept and raced some of them. Others I sold at various sales - Keeneland Sales in Kentucky and Ocala Breeder’s Sales in Florida. I have raced horses in Toronto, New Orleans, Pennsylvania, Florida, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey and New York. Among the racehorses I have bred are Champion Colorful Vices, and millionaire sire, Repent. I also received Canada’s highest equine award, the Sovereign, for breeding Champion Colorful Vices.
The racehorse currently being offered for a racing partnership by ARRRRR STABLES was bred by me, being raised on my farm and will go to North Carolina to begin its training in October or November, 2009.
"The Sovereign"
Trainer for ARRRRR STABLES’ 2009 OFFERING
Michael Miceli will be the trainer of our racehorse. Mike is stabled at Belmont Park and has been a successful New York trainer since 1990. Mike is a lifelong horseman, having spent 20 years as a jockey on the New Jersey, New York and Florida circuits. He finished 2nd on Hudson County in the 100th running of the Kentucky Derby. His Grade 1 wins include the Travers Stakes, the Monmouth Invitational, the Champagne Stakes, the Sapling, and the Gulfstream Park Handicap.
The General Partner of ARRRRR Stables has teamed up with Mike beginning in 1991 when he bought 10% of a racehorse, Fight For Peace. He continues to have Mike train horses for him because,
"If you want a thorough, knowledgeable, and honest trainer, one would have to look far and wide to do better than Mike Miceli."
